TonyProxy Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 14, 2026

TonyProxy is a network debugging tool for macOS, iOS and iPadOS made by tonyapps.org. This policy explains what data the app handles, what it sends to us, and how to turn that off.

In short

  • Traffic you capture never leaves your device. We cannot see it.
  • No account, no ads, no tracking, no selling of data.
  • Anonymous feature usage statistics are sent only if you opt in, and you can turn them off at any time.

Captured traffic stays on your device

TonyProxy records the network requests and responses you choose to inspect: URLs, headers, bodies, certificates, timing and sessions. All of it is stored and processed locally on your device. It is never uploaded to tonyapps.org or any third party. Exports (HAR, cURL, Postman and others) are files you create and share yourself.

To decrypt HTTPS for the domains you choose, TonyProxy creates its own root certificate on your device. The certificate and its private key are generated locally and never leave the device. You can remove the certificate at any time in your system settings.

VPN and Network Extension

On iOS and iPadOS, TonyProxy uses a local VPN configuration (a packet tunnel) to observe traffic from your device. On macOS it can use a Network Extension or a system proxy. In every case the traffic is handled on your device and goes directly to its original destination. It is not routed through servers operated by tonyapps.org, and we do not log your browsing.

Anonymous usage statistics (opt-in)

When you first use the app, TonyProxy asks whether you want to share anonymous usage statistics. This is off unless you turn it on, and you can change it any time in Settings. If enabled, the app sends:

  • which features were opened (for example Compose, Breakpoints or Export, including the export format);
  • app version and build number, platform (macOS / iOS) and device family (Mac / iPhone / iPad);
  • a random identifier that is created each time the app starts, so events from one run can be grouped.

It never includes captured traffic, URLs, host names, IP addresses you inspected, or any personal data, and there is no persistent device or user identifier. Turning the setting off deletes any events that were not sent yet.

Crash reports

If TonyProxy crashes, the app may ask on the next launch whether to send a crash report. A report is sent only if you agree. It contains technical diagnostics such as the crash type, a call stack, the app version and build, and the operating system version. It never includes captured traffic.

Separately, if you have enabled "Share with App Developers" in your device's Analytics settings, Apple may provide us with anonymized crash logs. That sharing is controlled by Apple and by your device settings.

Update checks (macOS outside the App Store)

Versions of TonyProxy for macOS distributed directly from tonyapps.org check for updates by sending the app identifier, release channel, version and build number. App Store versions are updated by the App Store and do not perform this check.

Support requests

If you contact us through the support form or by email, we receive the name, email address and message you provide, and use them only to answer you.

Data we do not collect

We do not collect your name, contacts, location, advertising identifier or browsing history, and we do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. TonyProxy is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Storage and retention

Usage statistics and crash reports are stored on servers operated by tonyapps.org and are used only to fix bugs and decide what to improve. They are not linked to your identity. We do not sell, rent or share them with third parties. Like any web server, ours may keep short-lived access logs, including IP addresses, for security and abuse prevention; these are not linked to usage statistics.

Your choices

  • Turn off usage statistics in Settings at any time.
  • Decline any crash report prompt.
  • Delete captured sessions in the app, or delete the app to remove all locally stored data.
  • Ask us to delete a support request by contacting us.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. Material changes will also be noted in the release notes of the app.
