Installation

Requirements

  • macOS 14.0 or later
  • Admin access on first launch (to approve the privileged helper daemon)

Install

  1. Download the .pkg installer.
  2. Run it and follow the prompts.
  3. Launch TonyProxy from Applications.

Approve the helper daemon

TonyProxy routes system traffic through a small privileged helper (TonyProxyHelper), registered via SMAppService. macOS treats this like any background-item request:

  1. On first launch, macOS shows a “TonyProxy” would like to add a login item / background task prompt.
  2. Approve it. If you miss the prompt, go to System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions and enable TonyProxy’s helper manually.
  3. Without this approval, TonyProxy can still run and inspect traffic you route to it manually, but it can’t set itself as the system-wide proxy automatically.
